2016/17 Hydraulink Sprintcar War of the Wings Final, Super Saloon Stampede & Easter Champs

Date: 15/04/17
Time: 4pm (Gates Open @ 2pm )

GOOD FRIDAY RACING POSTPONED TO SATURDAY ... GATES 2PM, RACING 4PM.  Please pass this on to your fellow speedway fans

Sprintcarmania comes to Cromwell this Easter with two days of exhaust howling, tyre screeching ‘Winged Demon’ racing at Heavy Trax Hire Central Motor Speedway.

From 4pm on Good Friday (NOW SATURDAY), speedway’s fastest and most powerful open wheeler class competes in the final of the hugely popular, hotly contested seven round 2016-17 $60,000 Hydraulink Sprintcar War of the Wings. Cromwell 't' driver and former No.1 Jamie Duff will go out onto the Cromwell clay leading on 556 points, with Christchurch drivers Luke Keegan and Matt Honeywell on 483 and 477 respectively. Fourth, fifth and sixth are Cromwell 't' drivers Jason Scott (430 pts), Matthew Anderson (364 pts) and Jason's young nephew, Sam O'Callaghan on 361 points.

According to War of the Wings organiser, Alistair Kelso, a driver to watch on Easter Sundar is Connor Rangi from Nelson. Having competed in just two of the seven round War of the Wings series, Connor has no hope of a podium finish but what is remarkable last season he raced a Youth Ministock and now at just 17-years-old is piloting a 900 horsepower Sprintcar. In his two WoW rounds Conor piloted 8N to highly creditable midfield finishes among some very quick and experienced drivers.

Easter Friday also brings super egg-citing racing for Super Saloon fans with day 1 of the annual and hugely popular 2016-17 Super Saloon Stampede. Will Cromwell ‘t’ driver and current 1NZ Pete Dickson wrap up a standout first season in Super Saloons by adding the Stampede to his trophy cabinet? No doubt 3NZ, wily Shane McIntyre, will have other ideas and don’t rule out ‘t’ drivers like Ray Stewart (34t), Daryl Ainsley (5t) and Paul Wright (12t). Add to the mix visiting Super Saloon drivers from all of The South, the action will be hot and heavy.

Easter Friday (NOW SATURDAY) is also huge for Six-Shooters, Productions, Saloons and Youth Ministocks racing in their annual Club Champs. Thrills and spills guaranteed.

Gates 2pm. Racing 4pm. Parents be sure to take your kids to the pits to collect posters and take a few selfies with drivers.
