CROMWELL IS SET TO TURN UP THE HEAT as the New Zealand Sprintcar Grand Prix hits town.

Hot on the heels of the South Island championships and the Southern series, newly primed and polished sprintcars, their drivers and crews will descend on Cromwell from throughout New Zealand and the US. The entry list is a real Who's Who of sprintcar racing.

A quick look at previous New Zealand Sprintcar Grand Prix results shows Rodney Wood 51m has earned three podium placings and was a previous 1NZ – last standing on the podium in Cromwell in the 2011/12 season. Rodney has confirmed he’s racing here again, and this time his son Cole will be joining him on the starting grid.

The US sprintcar sensation that is Joel Myers Jr. is back for battle on the track – and this time he has success, and plenty of first-hand experience of the unique Cromwell clay under his belt. His last outing in Cromwell at the Southern Sprintcar Series saw him pick off other challengers one by one, win a battle with Steve Duff Jr of Christchurch, slowly work to pull in on the talented Adam Evans and then breathing free air, Joel took the chequered flag in style.

Cromwell driver Adam Evans has now felt the force that is Joel Myers Jr, but he has also learned from the experience. He will be exciting to watch at the GP. He is young, talented and hungry – a mix that has made winners before.

Jamie Larsen has sported 1NZ three times, with an impressive track record through his racing career. He’s back, and he’s also ready for battle.

Looking at this season’s results to date and the depth of talent we’ll see in action, the field may throw up some surprises on the night. Josh Buchanan races consistently well and Slammin’ Sam O’Callaghan has shown us he definitely has what it takes. Jason Scott has undeniable credentials … so the winner on the night could come from anywhere on the field.

Make sure you are there for the heart-stopping action as the fastest cars on a speedway track battle battle it out. Tickets available online now.
